Why should I make a Will?

A Will is one the most important documents you will ever sign.

It tells your family exactly how you want your estate to be handled and makes sure that the right people benefit from the assets and property that you leave behind.

There is nothing morbid about making a will. You are never too young or too old to put your affairs in order – because there is never a wrong time to gain the peace of mind that a will can bring.

By putting off making a will you run the risk of leaving matters too late. This may mean that you leave behind problems for your family, or your inheritance goes to the wrong person or even to the Crown.

If you fail to make a will . . .

• Your spouse or civil partner will not automatically inherit your estate.

• Children under the age of 18 may have to go to Social Services whilst guardians are appointed.

• Your “Common Law” partner may not inherit any of your estate.

• Your family may become involved in lengthy arguments about how your assets should be distributed.

Making a will ensures that you have planned what will happen to your property, assets and wealth when you pass away. It means that your wishes will be followed and those whom you choose as beneficiaries will be peacefully given your assets.
